Terms of Use

These terms explain what Guess a Country is, what you can expect from it, and what we ask of you in return. They are written to be read rather than to be impenetrable.

Accepting These Terms

By using Guess a Country you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the site. They apply to the game, unlimited mode, the answer archive and every guide published here.

What the Service Is

Guess a Country is a free daily geography puzzle. One country is selected for each day, you receive 6 guesses, and after every attempt the game returns distance, direction and proximity information. The same puzzle is served to every player, and a new one appears at midnight UTC. Unlimited mode generates additional random puzzles that have no effect on the daily game or on your statistics.

The game is designed to be picked up and put down in a couple of minutes. It has no account system, no subscription and no paid tier, and nothing on the site is sold.

Educational Purpose

The site is a geography trivia and puzzle project. Country data, capitals, populations and distances are provided for education and general interest. Nothing here is a survey, legal opinion, navigation aid, or a substitute for authoritative sources, and it should not be relied on for travel, safety, legal or financial decisions.

No Accounts and No Data Collection

We do not operate accounts and we do not ask for personal information. There is no sign-up, no email collection and no payment step. Your progress, statistics, streak and settings are stored by your own browser on your own device and are never transmitted to us. Clearing your browser data for this site erases them permanently, and they will not transfer to another device or browser.

The privacy page describes exactly what is stored and how long it is kept.

Fair Use

Please do not attempt to disrupt the service, probe it for vulnerabilities without permission, or use automated tools to scrape the answer archive at a rate that degrades it for others. Accessing the site for your own personal use is entirely welcome.

Intellectual Property

The game design, the written guides, the page structure and the code that runs the site belong to the Guess a Country team. Country facts, place names and the underlying geographic data are not our creations and are not claimed as ours; they are used for educational trivia. Country outlines are simplified representations of real geography, not cartographic products suitable for legal or boundary purposes.

You are welcome to quote short extracts from the guides with a link back to the source page. You may not republish whole guides or the country dataset as your own.

Sharing Results

The share dialog is designed for you to post your own result. The summary it builds deliberately contains no country names, so posting it cannot spoil the puzzle for anyone else. You are responsible for what you choose to post, and for obeying the rules of whichever platform you post it on.

Third-Party Links

The site may link to external resources. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content, accuracy or practices. Following an external link is at your own discretion.

No Warranty

The site is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any particular puzzle will be solvable within 6 guesses. Country data is a fixed snapshot, so populations and borders may be out of date; the methodology page explains where the data comes from and where its limits are.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Guess a Country team is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the site, including loss of stored statistics or game progress, whether direct or indirect. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law.

Corrections and Content Changes

We correct factual errors as we find them, and a fix in the underlying dataset appears on every page that reads from it. Published daily answers are never rewritten, because their fixedness is what makes the archive trustworthy. Guides may be updated or retired as the game changes. The About page describes our editorial process.

Changes to These Terms

These terms may be revised as the site develops. The “last reviewed” date at the foot of this page always reflects the current version, and continued use of the site after a revision means you accept the updated terms.

Contact

Questions about these terms, or a mistake you believe needs fixing, are welcome and are treated as real work. The fastest route is the feedback route described on the About page, and corrections to country data are prioritised over everything else.
